Shawnee Prison Release Paths

Shawnee Correctional Center is an IDOC medium-security adult male prison. A person can leave the institution on mandatory supervised release, discharge, transfer, a detainer, pardon, or another authorized movement. Mandatory supervised release, often called MSR, is a period of community supervision after prison. Discharge means the applicable sentence control has ended. A transfer means custody continues elsewhere.

Because IDOC assigns people statewide, a Shawnee release does not imply a Johnson County home, arrest, or court case. The Johnson Sheriff does not keep Shawnee state-prison release record. IDOC's profile and central records control the public release trail.

Confirm Shawnee Center Release

Search the IDOC Individual in Custody Search by IDOC number when possible. Last name or birthdate can also be used. Match physical descriptors and sentence details so a common name does not lead to the wrong profile.

Shawnee Prison History

The official facility page says Shawnee opened in December 1984. The official page describes 24 buildings on 60 acres, with 40 acres inside the fence. These facts distinguish Shawnee from Johnson County local detention.

Shawnee Release Transportation

IDOC's release directive describes a state process for release planning. IDOC returns property, supplies suitable clothing, and arranges necessary transportation to an approved host or discharge address. Planning may include family pickup or a direct bus, train, or staff route, and a travel grant may be available under the directive.

This process belongs to state custody. It should not be attributed to Johnson's host jails. The approved address and travel plan also do not show that legal supervision has ended. Parole or MSR conditions may continue after the person physically leaves Shawnee.

Shawnee Release Verification Channels

IDOC is the custodian, but other channels can corroborate a change. Illinois VINE may send custody alerts. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board handles specified conditions, hearings, and release decisions. IDOC Parole handles field supervision. Each source has a narrower role than the central profile.

Johnson County Custody Inversion

Johnson County contains Shawnee and minimum-security Vienna while operating no verified adult county jail. A local arrestee may be held in Massac or Saline outside the county, while a statewide prisoner may leave Shawnee inside it. “Released in Johnson County” is therefore not one record category.

Shawnee IDOC Status Fields

Projected Parole Date is forward-looking under the current calculation. Last Paroled Date, when populated, records a past parole or MSR movement. Projected Discharge Date can refer to the expected end of legal control, which may be later than departure from Shawnee. Sentence blocks identify the sentencing county, case or mittimus number, offense, class, count, term, and the exact “SENTENCE DISCHARGED?: YES/NO” flag. Read every active sentence before concluding that custody or supervision ended.

Shawnee Release Date Changes

A Johnson Sheriff request cannot replace this state record because Shawnee is operated by IDOC.

A person can physically leave Shawnee while remaining on mandatory supervised release. MSR is the Illinois period of community supervision that follows prison for many sentences. IDOC Parole provides field supervision. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board addresses specified conditions, hearings, and release decisions. Final sentence discharge can occur later than prison departure.

Illinois VINE may provide a custody-change alert, and PRB notification channels may apply in specified matters. Those services corroborate or notify; they do not replace the IDOC profile or records response. IDOC does not administer VINE and cannot access VINE subscriber data. Shawnee Prison Movement Types

Shawnee movement records can describe MSR release, sentence discharge, pardon, transfer, detainer, or another authorized departure. Each has a different meaning. MSR moves the person into supervised community status. Discharge ends the relevant sentence control. Transfer continues institutional custody elsewhere. A detainer can send the person to another government authority.

Ask which category appears in the official record. A physical departure alone does not show that the person entered the community or became free of supervision.

Shawnee Versus Johnson Detention

Shawnee is a medium-security state prison for adult men from across Illinois. It is not the jail for Johnson County arrests. Johnson local adults are mainly housed at Massac or Saline, and those host jails create their own booking and movement records. Shawnee creates an IDOC trail regardless of whether the person has any Johnson County connection beyond physical placement.

The contrast is central to release verification. Use IDOC for Shawnee. Use Johnson Sheriff to identify a local host. Use Massac or Saline for the host movement, and the Johnson Circuit Clerk for the local order. Two state prisons inside Johnson County do not give the county sheriff control of state-prison release data.
